Pandemic Legacy Season 2: Walkthrough (SPOILERS)

Pandemic Legacy Season 2: Walkthrough (SPOILERS)

If you’re looking for a no spoiler intro to Pandemic Legacy Season 2, please see this article.

If you’re looking to see if someone else is doing as badly as you are, then you’re in the right place.

To say Pandemic Legacy Season 2 is hard is an understatement. Here’s a breakdown of all the key events we came across in each month, with each game being accompanied by an appropriate gif which sums up how bad it went.

Remember, each game of Pandemic Legacy is unique, and there are consequences for your actions, so certain things may happen at different times for each team. This is an account of what happened to us, your experience will differ.

January

Journal entry: Priorities, find our leaders, find more supplies. Attached a document we found dated last year. It’s grim. Our supplies won’t last the year. Perhaps North America will give us clues; it’s where the plague started. The Hollow Men are raiding surviving coastal cities and it’s only a matter of time before they move inland. We need to recon before they do. Hope the people we meet know that we are there to help. Old prejudices last long.

From the archives: OCTOBER 15, YEAR 70 – Degradation of supplies and routes has reached critical level. We are no longer effective. Supply lines to the interior have been abandoned. Cities will fall within a year and, when they do, we will fall. Next year’s stockpile projections are fatalistic. Haven leadership has voted to initiate the protocol we hoped would never come.

Objectives:  Complete 2 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Recon North America (mandatory)

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Labourer

Recon Report for North America: It started here, in North America. After COdA, there was chaos. Then the plague hit. The world could not handle back-to-back pandemics. We need to reconnect our supply lines. We need to be on the lookout for any sign of other havens. We need to find more supplies. Perhaps our leaders went here? Too many questions.

Chicago is automatically added to the grid, Atlanta, Denver, Mexico City, Los Angeles and San Fransisco are all added to the reserve. The unrationed event ‘Decontamination Kit’ is added to a player in their hand.

Establish supply line: As an action, you can now spend 2 supply cubes from your Character card to draw a supply line from the centre of your city to the centre of another city.

Search: As an action, you can scratch off one box on a City card in your hand and read its instructions. You must be in the city matching the card you scratch off to do this action. Many of the newly added City cards, (including Chicago) include search boxes.

We did ok in January, but as it was in season 1, the first months seems to serve as a way of getting you used to any changes in gameplay. We’ve played too many of these games now to allow ourselves to be lulled into a false sense of security. We know bad things will come…

Based on previous experience we decide to focus our production units on Character upgrades and infection card improvements.

February attempt 1

Perimeter report: Not applicable

Journal entry: Hollow Men are expanding their raids now that our leaders and soldiers have disappeared. Our supply routes, already abandoned, are unsafe. The Hollow Men are working their way into South America, likely looking for one of the labs working on a cure. They are also hitting our supply centres, which means building new ones. We need to find a way to fortify these centres so they can resist their attacks.

From the archive: APRIL 24, YEAR 40 – Reports from the frontier havens. Hollow Men have breached them with help of local population who still distrust us. Sending security patrols but it might be too late. Not sure how well we will function without a full network of havens. Nearing the end of our projected timetable with no cure in sight. We’re going to start having to dilute supplies or abandon supply routes.

Objectives: Complete 2 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Connect 2 new cities to the grid, Recon 1 unknown region

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Labourer

It’s only February and we’re already struggling. Great. Two months in and our asses have been officially kicked. We are however pretty impressed our plan to make Atlanta a sanctuary worked. As there is only one copy of Atlanta in Infection deck, we placed the Lockdown upgrade on it and destroyed it as soon as it came out of the deck.

At the end of your first game in February: A game end upgrade of 3 permanent supply centres becomes available

Now Atlanta is safe, we’ve made it a permanent supply centre to act as a safe base for us to work with, but we still have a long way to go. A small deck means that the same cities are at risk over and over again, plus, if you’re not lucky with drawing city cards, building supply centres is HARD.

February attempt 2

Objectives: Complete 2 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Connect 2 new cities to the grid, Recon 1 unknown region

Denver search: Companion Logistics Expert. You may do the Establish Supply Lines action with 1 fewer Supply cube if you have this card in your hand.

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Labourer

Atlanta was drawn from the Infection deck and destroyed as we had placed the Lockdown upgrade on the card. As there is only one infection card for Atlanta, by destroying it and building a permanent research station there, this city will always be safe (unless an outbreak occurs in a neighbouring city).

You’re kidding me right. This game is horrible. You know those games where you have a great plan and strategy to win and then the only card that can ruin everything ‘happens’ to just pop out of the top of the deck. Yeah. That was this game.

March

Perimeter report: Not applicable

Journal entry: Havens have been in trouble for a while. Old records show that the four main labs were never meant to go beyond 50 years.Nor were the supplies. Our leaders have been putting on a good show for a long time now. They knew the end was near. Now they are gone and it’s a race between us and the Hollow Men. We need to find the havens outside the Atlantic… they might have the supplies or equipment we can use.

From the archives: YEAR 57 SUMMARY – PEARL was on the verge of a cure when it went silent. OPAL, JADE, and TOPAZ are set up to support PEARL- they are not equipped to find a cure on their own. Transporting a potential cure from PEARL to JADE was always going to be a frantic dash. We must keep the routes between them viable.

Objectives: Complete 3 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Connect 2 new cities to the grid, Recon 1 unknown region, Complete 2 searches, Access a lost haven

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Labourer

Search Atlanta: The plague that broke the world started here. A group blew up the CDC, destroying the COdA virus but releasing a plague that couldn’t be stopped. Not sure what prompted this action or if they knew what would result from it.

Crap.

Basically, by completing Season 1 we destroyed the world.

Ooops.

South America Recon report: Labs. There were laboratories looking for a cure. Things didn’t seem to be going well. Our leaders were tight-lipped on the subject. Do these labs still exist? Common rumour on the havens is that they are all far to the south. Perhaps one is here? Is it still working? Have they made any advancements?

Buenos Aires is automatically added to the grid, Santiago, Lima and Bogota are all added to the reserve. The unrationed event ‘Strategic Reserves’ is added to a player in their hand.

On the plus side, at least we’re making progress…

Chart a sea lane: As an action, you can now spend 2 supply cubes from your Character card to draw a seas lane from your port location to another port location.

Stretched too thin: From now on, during setup, you must count the number of City cards in the Player deck. This number will determine the number of Epidemic cards to be added to the Player deck – it goes up to 10!!!!!

April attempt 1

Perimeter report:  Not applicable

Journal entry: This year is already taking its toll. People and resources are getting stretched thin. Gearing up to be out in the world is mentally difficult as we’re outsiders there. One bright spot are the laboratories. Although they lost their lead lab, the three labs in the Southern Hemisphere have kept working through the generations. We need to find out if they’ve made any progress.

From the archives: YEAR 42 – Pacific haven not reporting. Hoping Hollow Men did not steal everything. Sending scouts to Lima to check. Also sending patrols to Indian Haven… silent since the fallout in the Indian Ocean, Presumed lost.

Coordinates for JADE: 26°11’28’S 28°02’43’E
Coordinates for OPAL: 34°29’38’S 58°31’33’W
Coordinates for TOPAZ: 41°11’46’S 174°56’29’E
Coordinates for PEARL: 53°19’21’N ???

Objectives: Complete 3 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Connect 2 new cities to the grid, Recon 1 unknown region, Complete 2 searches, Access a lost haven

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Labourer

Bogota search: Locals say the haven off the coast was abandoned decades ago. Haven staff fled to Bogota but found no solace due to their appearance. We moved on without comment.

Buenos Aires search on land: Found OPAL laboratory, one of four labs seeking a cure. Someone at the lab has offered to join us. A new character, the Immunologist is now an available character to play.

Inoculate: As a free action, take a Player card or an Infection card matching your current city from its discard pile and put it into package 6.

Buenos Aires search at sea: We discovered a long-lost supply cache on the Falklands. Put 3 Supply cubes into this city from the reserve.

You’ve found us: Finally, someone from the havens. Have you found our leaders? They’ve been gone since the summit. We stopped using our satellite towers to broadcast for help since it attracted the Hollow Men. We made a breakthrough that should help and I know other labs have as well. Some of our scientists left to visit Lake Baikal, since that’s where the primary lab was located. If there is a cure, it would come from there. Although no one has heard from them for decades now…

Los Angeles was drawn from the Infection deck and destroyed as we had placed the Lockdown upgrade on the card. As we did for Atlanta, there is also only one card for Los Angeles. We took a risk here in assuming the city would link to Asia in the future and thought this would protect it.

The coordinates look like they point to the Labs, so at least when we reveal more of the board we’ll know which cities to search to find them.

Despite making progress in terms of story, we’re just not doing well. Supply cubes are disappearing faster than we can place them, and the deck seems to pretty much hate us. If you thought Season 1 was hard…

April attempt 2

Objectives: Complete 3 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Connect 2 new cities to the grid, Recon 1 unknown region, Complete 2 searches

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Immunologist

Lima search on land: Companion Herbalist. Play this card at any time to remove a Plague cube from your location.

Lima search at sea: We have learned the location of a lost haven. We have not yet accessed it.

Haven recon report:  Eerie. Just like our homes. Same design… same layout. Is this our future, empty cities rusting into the ocean? Searching for a few days revealed some breakthroughs – portable lab technology enabling supplies to be generated in the field and some experimental medicine to inoculate populations. These cities will remain inoculated for months – buying us some time – before it slowly wears off. We also found a cache of supplies which means more supplies each month for the rest of the year.

From now on, start each month with an additional 15 supply cubes. Portable Antiviral Lab cards are added to the player deck.

Mexico City search: Companion Scout. As an action, you can discard a City card to draw a City card of the same colour from the Player discard pile, if you have this card in your hand.

Good job we unearthed those extra supply cubes this month! To say we need them would be an understatement. We might have won this one but only by the skin of our teeth. Pass the gin?

May attempt 1

Perimeter report: Not applicable

Journal entry: Hollow Men have left the Americas alone and seem to be moving (retreating?) into Europe and Africa. They stop at nothing. Wherever they go, the plague follows. They are like men possessed to end everything we’re trying to do. After 70 years, old prejudices still exist. Also, we’ve learned where our leaders went. Andy why we’re still here.

From the archives: NOVEMBER 5, YEAR 70 – Initiating the protocol during our annual leadership summit. It’s a long journey to Utopia. We are the best and brightest minds of the havens and feel confident that Utopia will take us in, despite our differences. We have knowledge, skills, and experience. We can help. Those we leave behind would not gain access to Utopia. The list is made. Not an easy task but necessary. Godspeed us on our journey.

Objectives: Complete 3 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Connect 2 new cities to the grid, Recon 1 unknown region, Complete 2 searches

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Immunologist

Europe recon report: We found Europe struggling as much as the rest of the world, but, surprisingly, there are some old military bases with functioning aircraft. We can adjust our supply centres to include a landing strip and the havens already have old runways we could put back in use. This could be tremendous in our efforts to get around an ever-growing grid.

Paris is automatically added to the grid, Frankfurt, St Petersberg and Moscow are all added to the reserve. The unrationed event ‘Relocation’ is added to a player in their hand.

Shuttle flight: Move from any haven or supply centre to any other haven or supply centre on the grid

Completing a recon takes up so much time and energy that we’re failing on everything else. We really can’t work out if we’re doing well or not. We know this gam is supposed to be difficult, but even when we win it doesn’t feel like we’re achieving anything right now.

May attempt 2

Objectives: Complete 3 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Connect 2 new cities to the grid, Recon 1 unknown region, Complete 2 searches

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Labourer

Paris search: Companion Engineer. When you do the Build Supply Centre action, you need 1 fewer card if you have this card in your hand.

Middle East recon report: This region is sinister. The locals swear that the Hollow Men who roam the area transport rats and vermin and release them into cities. There are satellite towers here, picking up faint transmissions from… someone. The Hollow Men? By… August(?) we think we’ll be able to fine-tune our equipment and start listening to them. Although we suspect we can recon from Kolkata, as of yet we do not know how.

Bagdad is automatically added to the grid, Riyadh, Tehran, New Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata are all added to the reserve. The unrationed event ‘Renewal’ is added to a player in their hand.

Infested cities: Your character gets exposed if you begin your turn in a city marked with an infested symbol.

Hollow Men Gather:  Four Hollow Men Gather cards are added to the infection discard pile, and are added here during setup of future games. During the infect stage, if you draw a Hollow Man Gather card, keep drawing until you draw an Infection card with a city on it. Add one Hollow Man figure to this city. If the city already has 3 Hollow Man figures on it, reduce the population of that city by 1.

We had to use the unrationed event ‘Decontamination Kit’ this game, as a player was stuck in a city with infection cubes, we thought it would be best to use the event to prevent exposure. We also used the unrationed event ‘Relocation’ to destroy all three copies of New York from the infection discard pile, making New York a safe city.

It’s nice to have to deal with an additional threat though, Hollow Men are just swell. We suspect they’re something to do with the Faded from season 1, maybe we didn’t manage to cure COdA after all?

June

Perimeter Report: Not applicable

From the archives: MAY 23, YEAR 14 AFTER THE FALL – A new problem – an organised militia has started attacking our supply routes. They seem to be normal humans but somehow dead inside. Military Director Yona has dubbed them the ‘Hollow Men’ because of their ‘violent souls’. They have made our thankless task almost impossible as they have no love for us. We have stepped up patrols and have gotten the upper hand for now.

Journal entry: Utopia. Can we reach them? Our leaders went there. It’s the last true piece of civilisation left – secure enough to resist both the plague and the Hollow Men. Perhaps they have a cure? We don’t know exactly where Utopia is. Somewhere in the far east. If we can get there, some think they would help us. Some think they would kill us on sight.

Objectives: Complete 3 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Connect 2 new cities to the grid, Recon 1 unknown region, Complete 2 searches

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Labourer

Baghdad search:  A group of Hollow Men are here, preparing hundreds of caged rats to be delivered to an unsuspecting city.

Africa recon report: There is infestation here; vermin carrying the plague run through the cities. The abandonment of supply lines by our haven leadership has driven much of the world to the brink. Old satellite towers dot the landscape. We can use them to broadcast information to each other, which should cut down our need for travel on the ever-growing grid.

Kinshasa is automatically added to the grid, Khartoum, Johannesburg, Dar es Salaam and Antananarivo are all added to the reserve. The unrationed event ‘TOPAZ Experimental Vaccine’ is added to a player in their hand.

Build a satellite tower: Spend 2 supply cubes from your Character card to build a satellite tower in your city.

Transmit: At a city containing a satellite tower, give 1 card matching the colour of the city you are in to another player. The other player may be anywhere in the world.

By the end of the game we had a city with 0 population which triggered Turning Point #1:

Forsaken Cities: Cities with a population of 0 are forsaken, and become immediately infested. Only the Drive/Ferry action is allowed here. When you draw an Infection card for a forsaken city place it in the Game End area and draw a replacement card. Forsaken cities do not count as cities on the grid when determining Game End Production.

New volunteers from the havens have decided to join us: The Sanitation Officer and Captain are added to the pool of available characters.

So now Africa has been revealed we’re pretty sure Johannesburg contains one of the Labs, so if possible we’ll be searching there. So we might have to deal with Hollow Men now but thank god for satellite towers! Despite all the hardship we’ve suffered trying to complete the objectives we now have a much easier way of transferring city cards. Something tells me this will be a big boost for future games.

We’re also unsure how the Forsaken cities will play out. While they’re not at risk of infection, they also thin the deck and restrict movement. While we’re going to try our best to save cities, it seems like losing one isn’t the worst thing that can happen right now, and letting some go to complete objectives might be a choice we have to make in future.

July

Perimeter Report: Not applicable

From the archives: Haven networks still at full capacity – when we were re-located here, they set us up properly. Hope is still kindled. Strange to see adults on the havens who never knew the world before I dream to live on land again. I sometimes dream of fleeing for Utopia. I imagine they still function like the old world. I miss land and dirt. I hear they are close to a cure. Would they share it with our people?

Journal entry: Satellite towers have started picking up faint broadcast signals. Need to know who is transmitting. We think it’s Hollow Men, but there’s someone else. Could the Hollow Men be taking orders? Is someone ordering them to spread the plague? The grid is growing and can’t handle Hollow Men spreading the plague. We’re prepared to forsake some if need be. Would that make us the monsters the world thinks we are?

Objectives: Complete 3 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Connect 2 new cities to the grid, Recon 1 unknown region, Complete 2 searches, Triangulate signals

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Labourer

Los Angeles search the land: Found old shipping containers. They contained old but surprisingly effective supplies. Take 4 Supply cubes from the reserve and add them to the stockpile.

Los Angeles search at sea: We have learned the location of a lost haven. We have not yet accessed it.

What you hear: Triangulation complete. We’ve picked up some chatter from the Hollow Men. We’ve learned that they primarily use three frequencies: 9.2, 9.31, and 11.88. When we get the satellite towers fully operational (we predict this will happen around August), we will be able to listen in on their signals.

Things are looking up! The satellite towers have made things much easier, especially considering that forsaken cities and Hollow Men are already making it difficult to move around, we finally see light at the end of the tunnel. Despite this, and knowing how these games work, we’re going to enjoy it while it lasts, as we’re confident it won’t…

August attempt 1

Perimeter Report: Not applicable

From the archives: DECEMBER 19, YEAR 48 – The three labs in the Southern Hemisphere have made limited advancements, but perhaps too late as PEARL has stopped reporting. Their last broadcast said they had found what they needed! The sediment cores contained bacteria samples in which they had identified the bacteriophage. We had it! We had a means to a cure. Now they are gone. Sending a team to investigate. They are covered properly to avoid attention.

Journal entry: Have finally fully accessed the satellite towers. Starting to monitor different frequencies. Whoever is broadcasting uses multiple channels. We’ve lost a lot of time listening to these decoy stations. Accessing the towers has given us a sense of purpose. We feel invigorated!

Objectives: Complete 3 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Connect 2 new cities to the grid, Recon 1 unknown region, Complete 2 searches

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Immunologist

Monitor:  As an action, at a city containing a satellite tower, draw the top 4 Player cards together. Do not resolve any Epidemic cards that are drawn. Then, scratch off one box on the frequency scanner.

Frequency scanner: The frequency scanner has 10 boxes available to scratch off for different frequencies. We have narrowed our search down to 3 frequencies which we have already been told the Hollow Men will be transmitting on.  9.2, 9.31 and 11.88, so we will monitor these first.

Moscow search: Locals still bitter their leaders left them decades ago for a “Utopia” in the east. A week after their train left, the sky to the east started glowing. They led us to Smolensk, an old Soviet military facility outside of town, to report our findings.

Kinshasa search: Companion Technician. When doing the Build Satellite Tower action, spend 1 fewer Supply cube if you have this card in your hand.

So we think that Utopia is in North Asia as the black area there has a red glow around it, but we’re not sure how to get there right now. The frequency scanner is interesting, especially as we’re confident we know which three frequencies to aim for, based on information gained in previous games.

Asia’s recon is going to be difficult though, but we’ve upgraded one of our characters to be able to pull city cards from the discard pile. We hope that by linking new red cities we can immediately take those cards and recon Asia.

August attempt 2

Objectives: Complete 3 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Connect 2 new cities to the grid, Recon 1 unknown region, Complete 2 searches

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Immunologist

East Asia recon Report: We didn’t expect this. We thought maybe the world still existed here. Instead, we found the people of the region huddled in shelters, living in fear of the walled-off Utopia. The Hollow Men come from there. Every November a new wave is released to terrorise the planet. We have started developing a plan to get into Utopia in November but we need more information. We need to get some Hollow Men to defect to our side to get enough information to make a plan.

Build shelter: Discard a card matching the colour of your current city to build a shelter there. Characters in a city, or leaving a city with a shelter do not get exposed.

Jakarta recon report: There is infestation here; vermin carrying the plague run through the cities. The abandonment of supply lines by our haven leadership has driven much of the world to the brink. Old satellite towers dot the landscape. We can use them to broadcast information to each other, which should cut down our need for travel on the ever-growing grid.

Jakarta is automatically added to the grid, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul, Osaka, Tokyo, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City and Manila are all added to the reserve. The unrationed event ‘Biodome Prototype’ is added to a player in their hand.

An incomplete plan:  To find a way in we need 5 unique red city player cards. We also need to be able to bypass their security, devise a distraction and to know what we need if a cure is found, but we do not yet have this information.

Chicago search: Survivors are holding on despite supplies being gone for years. They told us how their haven in the Pacific stopped supply runs for unknown reasons.

Progress! With the character upgrades on the team we have created we seem to be working quite well. Our ability to take red city cards as soon as they are added to the grid feels super sneaky, but it’s workign a treat!

September attempt 1

Perimeter Report: Not applicable

From the archives: Two of our havens are gone. Without their supplies, our ability to continue has been severely compromised. I feel the first real tendrils of despair entering my heart. Is someone so depraved that they would let us all dies? We were condemned to these havens, but we have made every effort to help the whole world. If we were gone, then what?

Journal entry: PEARL and its possible cure is all we have left. We need this. The year is drawing to a close and this is our last chance. We need to find it. We need to get it. We need to start making a cure. What are Utopia’s motives? Are they holding PEARL hostage?

Objectives: Complete 2 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Connect 2 new cities to the grid, Recon East Asia, Complete 2 searches

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Immunologist

It’s wearing off: During the infect stage of an epidemic, draw a random infection card from package 6. Remove all the supply cubes from that city and put them in the stockpile. Discard this card to the infection discard pile.

Infect the grid: During setup, shuffle the Infection cards and flip over 6 of them. Move one supply cube from the city matching each flipped card back to the stockpile. Flip 3 more Infection cards, for each card, place 1 Hollow Men figure in the matching city.

Wellington recon report: Found TOPAZ lab in Wellington. Cut off from the rest of the world for nearly 50 years, they were surprised to see us! No haven presence and no Hollow Men. More importantly, no trace of the plague. We were quarantined and asked to leave. One brave vector control expert agreed to come with us. He explained some breakthroughs and confirmed the location of PEARL in Lake Baikal.

Search Antananarivo on land: Companion: Containment Specialist. Play this card at any time to remove all Plague cubes from 1 location on the grid.

Search Antananarivo at sea: We have found a lost haven! We have not yet accessed it.

Erm, we made a mistake. We didn’t realise that we had already reconned Asia before it became a game objective and thought the recon on Wellington was what we were aiming for. We wasted so much time manoeuvring everything into place for this recon that we ended up losing when we only needed one more move to complete the game. Gutted is an understatement.

We also accidentally brought forward epidemics by using the monitor action unwisely, but we know now how to use this strategically in future games.

September attempt 2

Objectives: Complete 2 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Connect 2 new cities to the grid, Complete 2 searches

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Immunologist

Search Tehran: Captured some Hollow Men and questioned them about their current plans. We used this information to remove some threats. Remove up to 2 Hollow Men figures from the board.

Search Frankfurt: Companion: Messenger. As a free action, you may take supply cubes from an adjacent location and place them on your location if you have this card in your hand.

After our mishap last month, we actually got this done quite quickly. Annoying though, considering we should have never had to replay this month at all. We have however made great use of the monitor action, using it to bring forward the next epidemic and skip it, so we have much less to contend with.

October

Perimeter Report: Not applicable

From the archives: OCTOBER, YEAR 1. Five months on these “havens”. I understand why, but I still miss home. We hear stories of a plague on the mainland. If the world collapses, can we leave? I hope my children will soon return to the home we left. I left a note there for them to read when we return. For now, they cry every night, but soon all will feel normal… as normal as it can be.

Journal entry: So far from our homes. So much chaos. So much hatred toward us. Even still. Not sure how much longer we can do this. Not sure humanity is worth it. Still, we have found a way to use the satellite towers against the Hollow Men. By broadcasting on their frequencies, we can lead them astray, which should help us move around more freely. If we get them onto our havens, we think we can persuade some of them to join our cause.

Objectives: Complete 2 objectives from; Build 3 new supply centres (mandatory), Get Hollow Men to defect

Team: The Vector Control Expert, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Labourer

Broadcast misinformation: At a city containing a satellite tower, move a Hollow Men figure to a location adjacent to where the figure currently is. The colour of your current city must match the colour of the Hollow Men figure’s current city.

Search Delhi: Companion: Vector Control Technician. You do not get exposed when you begin your turn in an infested city if you have this card in your hand.

Search Antananarivo on land: Companion: Containment Specialist. Play this card at any time to remove all Plague cubes from 1 location on the grid.

Search Antananarivo at sea: We have found a lost haven! We have not yet accessed it.

Turning point #3 Hollow Men have defected: If there is at least 1 Hollow Men figure on 3 different havens at the end of the game

An exchange of secrets: The Hollow Men had been told to fear us, that we were monsters, that we deserved death. We were, after all, the Faded, quarantined to the havens after C0dA. The vaccine created 70 years ago keeps our minds normal – it is our skin that is forever changed. Being on the havens spared us from the plague and put us in a position to help the world. 70 years of helping humanity and they still hate us. Some of our fellow faded are disgusted we have brought Hollow Men to the havens and have left us. We think this was the right move, however. We can now create a plan to get into Utopia.

An incomplete plan:

  • Find a way in (5 unique red city cards)
  • How can we bypass security? (unknown)
  • Should we devise a distraction? (unknown)
  • What will we need if we find a cure? (unknown)

We need more information before we can start. Expecting to collect it soon.

Seriously, WE’RE the Faded? Are you KIDDING ME??? Ok, so I kind of love this twist.I mean look at the character stickers, we probably should have figured this out earlier…

So much has happened and we’ve done really well this month! We’re managing to minimise damage at the end of games and make great progress. Is it too early to think we might win?

November

Intelligence report: Not applicable

From the archives: JUNE 18, YEAR 10. 10 years upon the seas. 5 years towards a cure. Someone the havens still don’t want to help the world, after they had quarantined us here. I understand though. No one knew the long-term effects of C0dA. Our minds are ours again, but our skin is forever faded. Even our children are born faded. These havens proved to be a godsend as we were isolated when the plague struck. Our prison became humanity’s last hope.

Journal entry: This is our month. Every November, Utopia releases new Hollow Men into the world. For two days, they are distracted. Our recon into the city needs to happen this month or we’ll miss our opportunity. We don’t know what we’ll find in there or what we’ll find at PEARL. We need to be prepared for anything.

Objectives: Complete 1 objective; Complete the plan (mandatory)

Team: The Radio Operator, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Immunologist

The plan: The Hollow Men gave us inside information to help us access Utopia. We’ve finalised our plan. Do the recon action in Shanghai with the cards indicated below to check off part of the plan. A supply centre is not required to do this.

  • Locate hidden entrance (5 unique red city cards)
  • Devise distraction (3 unique yellow city cards)
  • Decode access key (4 unique black city cards)
  • Prepare containment units (3 unique blue city cards)

Search Hong Kong: Companion: Structural Engineer. When you do the build shelter action, you may discard any colour City card if you have this card in your hand.

Search Shanghai: We found the haven leaders. Dead. Unburied. Shot outside the walls of Utopia where they petitioned to get in. There were no survivors.Utopia accepts no outsiders. Utopia leaves no survivors.

Utopia recon report: We have accessed Utopia. But, this is no utopia… This is hell on Earth. Utopia’s mission? Kill the Faded and the people we’re helping and then repopulate the world with uninfected humans. Every year they expel males to keep their population down and their people in check. These Hollow Men are tasked to destroy us in order to be allowed home. What’s more, Utopia has had the PEARL laboratory under armed guard for 30 years. Utopia has been holding the cure from the world. They were just waiting for us to die.

Eek we have accessed Utopia! Good game people, good game.  Ok, so we now also have a ton of Utopia infectio cards and more Hollow Men gather cards, but we only have one more month to complete right? How hard can this be???

December

Perimeter Report: Not applicable

From the archives: DECEMBER, YEAR 70. Final note before the exodus to Utopia. The havens have failed. The abs did not do their jobs. We did not do ours. We had such hopes that the Faded could hold the world together. But the havens end “not with a bang, but with a whimper.” I feel pity for those we leave behind on the havens. They will be lost without us but the fate of the world lies in our hands, not theirs. To Utopia we march. To salvation…

Journal entry: Our supplies are almost gone. We have come so close. We’ve reconnected the world. Now we hope to cure it. We must reach Lake Baikal, find the PEARL Lab, get whatever sure they have created, and bring it to Johannesburg. We won’t have this opportunity again. If we don’t do it this month, then all is lost.

Objectives: Complete 1 objective; Deliver the sample (this objective is completed when a player carrying the sample is in Johannesburg AND Johannesburg has a supply centre

Team: The Vector Control Expert, The Farmer, The Administrator & The Immunologist

Search Santiago: This a town haunted by despair. A surge of refugees overwhelmed the city’s resources. The locals have not done well. Plague is rampant. Must not stay.

Field report: We’ve found PEARL lab in Lake Baikal! Scientists are here, isolated by Utopia. They have samples of a cure – we need to get it to JADE. Utopia patrols are everywhere – we will have to move cautiously. It’s too dangerous to carry it in the open. We need to inject a massive dose of the sample in ourselves – carry it in our bodies. A dose that large will certainly kill the carrier. We have exactly 4 doses. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Self-Infect: As an action, while in the PEARL lab, scratch off exposures until you reveal a scar or death. If you reveal a scar, ass the Carrier scar to your character card. You are now carrying 1000x the safe dose of sample in your body.

Carrier: You have the sample in your body.

  • Your pawn may be moved only by using the Drive/Ferry action.
  • To enter a city, you must discard a card matching its colour.
  • At the end of the game, win or lose, destroy this character.

Search Johannesburg: Fund JADE laboratory, mostly abandoned. There is one holdout who offered to join us. JADE was set up to be a production facility to create vast doses of the cure, if one had been found. The equipment is still functional. They would need a supply centre and a sample to start production.

Oh my gosh what an ending! SO we found Utopia and jumped into taking the sample without really looking at what this meant. I mean, we had to do it so there wasn’t really an option, but that took some serious planning to get to our final location and complete the game. Go team!

At last: …it’s over. The fate of humanity was in your hands. How did you do?

The final reckoning:

  • 50 points per game won in the first half of the month
  • 30 points per game won in the second half of the month
  • Total population of all locations on the grid
  • 100 points for delivering the sample
  • 25 points for each lab on the board
  • -5 points for each forsaken city on the grid

We finished with a final score of 700!

The sample has been extracted from the carrier; we will always remember their sacrifice. Production will start within days.Utopia’s plan of exterminating us is over. The world belongs to Faded and non-Faded now. They waited for us to die but we survived. We are here to stay.

Despite our inexperience, we did the impossible. The world has paid the price of our leader’s fear, Utopia’s malice, and the Hollow Men’s savagery. But we have a cure! We believe that the world will recover in time. There will be new cities and new countries. Who knows how long it will take to rebuild, but we will be part of it.

The verdict? This game is Awesome!

I’m pretty sure Pandemic Legacy is the best game to have ever been invented, although I’m not sure my nerves are strong enough for Season 3…
